We invite all interested students to apply to our Joint Seminar TUW-SIT 2023. Together with students from the Sibaura Institute of Technology (Japan) you will work in small groups on tasks focusing on walkability, bikeability, quality of public space, amongst others.
The Joint Seminar will take place from March 6th to March 13th in Vienna – we will be redesigning the Fasanviertel. You can expect hands-on planning experiences, new insights into foreign planning philosophies and a positive group spirit.
Süleyman Adahi Sahin, MSc, from the Sakarya University of Applied Sciences, Türkiye will give a presentation at FVV on November 17th. He will talk about his research titled International Communities and Daily Travel Mode Choice: A Preliminary Example of Vienna. Every community has different behaviors according to their cultures. The background of culture is not limited to traditions or daily routines. Unconsciously, habits may also leave strong impacts on travel behaviors from time to time. Here, we invite you to join us to understand how this and other situations play a role in our daily transportation mode choices.

Bio: Süleyman Adahi Sahin, MSc, is PhD candidate and Research Assistant (equal to University Assistant) in Civil Engineering Department at Sakarya University of Applied Sciences. His research interests are: traffic engineering, transportation planning and policy, highway engineering, micromobility, sustainable and intelligent transportation systems. He assists in some lectures such as Transportation, Technical English, and Technological Civil Engineering Applications. Süleyman Adahi Sahin has scientific papers titled Urban Mobility in Covid-19: How We Adapted to Change and How Should We Respond (2020) and conference paper The Effect of Pawma Addition on Bitumen Viscosity, Penetration and Softening Point from Warm Mix Asphalt Additives (2019). He wrote a chapter called Investigation of the Performance of Warm Mix Asphalt Additives on 50/70 Penetrated Bitumen and Pre-cost Study (2021) in the book RILEM International Symposium on Bituminous Materials. Currently, he is working on disadvantages groups on transportation policy, sustainable mobility, urban transportation, with conference papers to publish and research articles in the review process on these topics. Starting from next April, he will work as a guest researcher at UTP Erasmus University Rotterdam. In addition, he is also working on establishing a project team called TransportLAB in Turkey as a co-founder.
Professor Margarida Coelho from the University of Aveiro, Portugal will give two exciting talks at FVV. On April 25th, she will talk about her research titled Research on smart and sustainable mobility – Connecting the dots. On April 26th, she will join the FVV researchers to discuss about lateral bike sensors and deliver a presentation titled Road safety for vulnerable road users: technology vs. behaviour.

Bio: Prof. Margarida Coelho is Assistant Professor with Habilitation („Agregação“) of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Vice-Diretor of the Centre for Mechanical Technology and Automation, University of Aveiro, Portugal. She is the Scientific Coordinator of the research team on Smart mobility at the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Her research interests are: impacts of transportation systems (namely, traffic congestion, energy consumption, pollutant emissions and road safety), connected and automated mobility, life cycle assessment, active modes and decarbonization of ports. Margarida Coelho has more than 90 scientific papers published (or in press) in international journals (such as the Sustainable Cities & Society, Applied Energy, International Journal of Hydrogen Energy, Science for Total Environment, Transportation Research Part D: Transport and Environment, International Journal on Sustainable Transportation, Atmospheric Environment, Transportation Research Record, etc), besides more than 150 other publications in book chapters and proceedings of scientific conferences. Margarida Coelho has had extensive participation in transport related projects. She is the PI of R&D Projects funded by the Portuguese Science and Technology Foundation (FCT) and the Luso-American Foundation / United States National Science Foundation. She is also a participating member in several projects funded by FCT, SUDOE and INTERREG Europe Programmes; under the Interreg Projects CISMOB and PriMaaS, she has been involved in stakeholder community engagement regarding the penetration of ICT in transport (to tackle decarbonization objectives) as well as low-carbon mobility-as-service measures. She already supervised 5 PhD students (6 other students are developing their PhD under her supervision) and more than 50 Master students. She is Associate Editor of Transportation Research Part D, Journal of Intelligent Transportation Systems and IEEE Open Journal of Intelligent Transportation Systems, besides the participation in editing several journals‘ special issues. She was the Chairwoman of EWGT2021 – EURO Working Group on Transportation Annual Meeting. She is a recognized Expert on Energy and Transportation by the Portuguese Association of Engineering, where she also serves as Vice-Coordinator of the Energy Commission.

40 Studierende wohnen und studieren 14 Tage lang in der Region Lungau in Salzburg und erarbeiten (Planungs-)Projekte für die Region.

Die Region Lungau befindet sich im Südosten des Bundeslandes Salzburg, in direkter Nachbar*innenschaft zur Steiermark und zu Kärnten. In Tamsweg, der größten Gemeinde im Lungau, befindet sich unsere WORKBASE, wo gemeinsam gearbeitet, gekocht und sich getroffen wird.
Die An- und Abreise ist selbst zu organisieren. Die Mobilität im Lungau wird vor Ort gemeinschaftlich organisiert.

TU Wien (Vienna University of Technology), Austria and Kanazawa University are happy to announce the first joint seminar on transport planning and traffic engineering. The seminar will be jointly organized by the Research Center of Transport Planning and Traffic Engineering, Faculty of Civil Engineering, TU Wien, and Division of Environmental Design, Graduate School of Natural Science and Technology, Kanazawa University.
Both the Research Center and the Division aim to establish a future research collaboration in the field of environment-friendly transport and mobility. This seminar is the first milestone for this. In the future, student exchanges are considered as another potential area of collaboration.
